This past summer I spent a week on vacation in the Pacific Northwest. I had never been up that way and always wanted to see that part of the United States.

I was able to do a lot of coastal driving, hiking among the Red Woods, Whitewater rafting the Deschutes River, and downhill mountain biking at Whistler.

This video blog only covers the first part of my trip, the search for the Red Woods. I was simply amazed at how large these trees were. My only regret was not spending enough time with them.

I shot this video using the Canon 5dmk2 DSLR. I had a bunch of lenses with me and my trusty Vinten Vision 3 tripod. I also brought along a Kessler CineSlider with ElektraDRIVE motors and Oracle controller. I did not plan to use this gear for timelapsing. I was going to use the recording feature to set movement in shots that I was in. I did not have a camera operator and I was very pleased with the results. Be sure to watch the very end as I have included some behind the scenes.

I am already planning a second trip out to California this summer to visit these forest giants.
